Milan boss Max Allegri plays talk of Italy national team move
Serie A side Milan have seen Max Allegri get linked with a move to the Italian national team in recent weeks. This happened after a poor run of results that have led to the Rossoneri falling away from the title race. The Italian has now trashed the talk of a move to the Azzurri. hilogame.news
Get Italian Football News have covered how Giovanni Malago’s appointment at FIGC can dictate Allegri’s move to the national team.
Now, that might not be the case. Allegri spoke to the press after Milan’s 1-0 win over Verona and he was asked specifically about his future at the Diavolo.
He said – relayed by Calciomercato: “No phone calls, my only concern is Milan. We’ve started a journey together and we’ll continue. Leao had a good game, he provided the assist, then I needed a striker with different characteristics, and Gimenez came in. Everyone needs to feel important and come in in top condition.”
Mike Maignan was racially abused in the game by Verona fans. Allegri also spoke of that, issuing a response that may not go down well with too many.
“I hadn’t even noticed. Maignan was good at ignoring these things. You fight by ignoring these things. We all have to fight them.”
He also described his admiration for Adrien Rabiot, who scored the winner in the first half.
“I had Adrien for three years at Juventus. He’s an important player like all the others who made themselves available today. It’s normal for great players to be able to give something extra. He’d been ‘wandering’ around the pitch for a few games, then he’d been lacking a goal. Sunday is a great match between two teams aiming for the Champions League.”
The win took Milan back up to second in the table. But they are 12 points behind Inter, who have one hand on the title.
Analysis: Silk and steel win the day
Manchester City secured the victory that maintains their growing momentum and applied further pressure on Arsenal through the familiar route of a Erling Haaland winner.
This was a triumph, however, in which City had to demonstrate all their qualities before wild celebrations greeted the final whistle and three priceless points.
Rayan Cherki's goal was the result of a touch of genius and sleight of foot to bamboozle Arsenal's Gabriel and Piero Hincapie before sliding in a perfect finish.
After Gianluigi Donnarumma's error swiftly gifted Arsenal a way back into the game, City had to dig deep to show reserves of resilience before Haaland was once more the match-winner.
City rode their luck in moments, but they are once more looking like an unstoppable force as they move to the shoulders of Arsenal, who have controlled the title race for so long.
At the heart of it all was Bernardo Silva, who has announced he is leaving City at the end of this season, probing in his usual fashion but also showing his fierce competitive streak as he raced back 50 yards as the last man to halt a dangerous Arsenal attack.
He was rewarded with a bearhug from manager Pep Guardiola after the final whistle as he pointed to the Portuguese and urged City's fans to join him in praise.
The celebrations that swept around Etihad Stadium at the end reflected the growing sense that City are poised to strike, with a game in hand at doomed Burnley to come.
IPL 2026: Riyan Parag under fire as horror run continues with another flop vs KKR
Riyan Parag in IPL 2026
14* (11) vs CSK
8 (4) vs GT
20 (10) vs MI
3 (5) vs RCB
4(6) vs SRH
12(14) vs KKR
Across six matches this season, Parag has accumulated only 61 runs, with a highest score of 20. His average of 12.20 and strike rate of 122 underline a prolonged dip in form for a player expected to anchor the middle order. Despite that, his captaincy has not been a concern. Parag has handled the pressures of leadership well, rotating bowlers smartly and maintaining composure even when games have slipped away.
In this contest, Rajasthan Royals actually made a strong start after being put in to bat. Yashasvi Jaiswal and young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi took full advantage of the Powerplay, racing to 63 without loss and scoring at over 10 runs per over against a largely ineffective KKR pace attack. At that stage, RR looked set for a total well beyond 180.
However, the turning point came with the introduction of spin. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine combined to completely change the course of the innings. Chakravarthy removed Sooryavanshi for 46, triggering a collapse that saw RR slip from a dominant position to 118/4.
Parag walked in during this crucial phase but failed to stabilise the innings. Struggling to rotate strike and unable to counter the spin threat, he was dismissed for 12, adding to RR’s problems. Chakravarthy finished with outstanding figures of 3/14, while Narine picked up 2/26, choking the scoring in the middle overs.
Rajasthan eventually limped to 155/9, a total that looked well below par after their flying start. For Parag, the bigger concern remains his batting form. While his captaincy continues to show maturity, RR will need their skipper to start delivering with the bat to revive their campaign.
